Hot Comb, Providence (performer)

Written by Elmo Terry-Morgan, Hot Comb, in which I played the role of Queen Victoria Africanique, opened on October 3rd, 2002 at Rites and Reason Theatre in Providence. Set in 1917 and inspired by Madam CJ Walker, Hot Comb followed a woman who journeys to Harlem on a quest to find love and financial independence.

Month of Meow (exhibition)

On September 1, 2002 – Novemver 1st, 2002,  I exhibited Month of Meow at the Wayland Square Starbucks in Providence, Rhode Island. In Month of Meow, I took a Polaroid of my cat, Meow Meow every day in the fall of 2000 in Chicago. Over the course of the project, I noticed that Meow Meow became more performative over the course of the month and our relationship as pet-guardian/pet evolved

Mutation, Olneyville (design)

On August 23rd, 2002, I designed and modeled an outfit from my short-lived post-apocalyptic fashion label, Mutation at the Dirt Palace for the Make Your Own Fashion – Make Your Own Government, a fashion show and fundraiser for Vote Toste campaign. The Dirt Palace is a feminist art space located at an abandoned library building in Olneyville, Rhode Island that was repurposed.

School of the Art Institute of Chicago, BFA (education)

In May 2001, I graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) with a BFA in Studio Art. At the graduation ceremony, DJ Spooky was a featured speaker and was awarded an honorary degree. While at SAIC, my focus was in Transdisciplinary Studies with a concentration on performance and puppetry.

Strings Attached, Chicago (Exhibition)

On March 31, 2001 – Strings Attached, an installation of puppets and a doll I created while finishing my degree at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) opened at Gallery 2 in Chicago. Strings Attached was part of the 2001 Undergraduate Exhibition featuring the graduating BFA class at SAIC and ran through April 13th, 2001.

Puppet Runway, Chicago (performance)

On Friday, June 23rd, 2000, I performed Puppet Runway at the Columbus Drive Performance Space at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago at the culmination of their summer Puppetry Institute. Assisting me with puppeteering in these performances was Maya Press. Later in 2002, I performed Puppet Runway at Perishable theater in Providence, RI

On Friday, June 23rd, 2000, images of my work were featured in the Chicago-Sun Times in the article, Students have a Hand in Puppetry Class.  The puppets featured in the write-up were from my performance, Puppet Runway, which I performed in the Columbus Drive Space st the School of the Art Institute of Chicago at the culmination of their summer Puppetry Institute.
