Reptile Under the Flowers, Los Angeles (fabrication, puppeteer)

From May 21-24, 2009, I was a puppeteer, puppet fabricator, and kinegram designer for Janie Geiser’s peepshow/diorama performance, Reptile Under the Flowers.  Automata and the Museum of Jurassic Technology co-presented 45 performances of Reptile Under the Flowers for small groups over the course of 4 days at the The Foshay Masonic Lodge in Culver City, Los Angeles.

Reptile Under the Flowers, 2009

 From the invite:

The Museum of Jurassic Technology, in collaboration with Automata, presents the premiere of Janie Geiser’s new diorama-performance “The Reptile Under the Flowers”. The Reptile Under the Flowers integrates puppetry, peepshows, mechanical performing objects, miniature projections, music/sound, and a miniature house, crumbling in the snow. Reptile is performed by an ensemble of puppeteers and performers, in a walk-through set of 13 scenes, with the audience entering the installation in groups of 8 people every 15 minutes.  The full duration of the work is about an hour.

The Reptile Under the Flowers builds its narrative through the accumulation of small actions and events, and follows the intersecting lives of a father and son.
