On December 2nd, 2005, I performed an episode of Growing Up Linda with Jen Swain and Marya Errin Jones at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline for Evan O’Television’s Itching Man Festival.
Growing Up Linda was an ensemble actor-puppetry performance in which the fictitious daughter of a famous ice cream mogul must come to terms with her off-kilter, troubled past. In Birthday Trauma, the inciting episode, written with long-time collaborator, PJ McWhiskers, Linda becomes enamored with her ice cream cake, Cookie Puss. After Linda makes a wish for eternal friendship with Cookie Puss (the only one in the world who understands her), Daddy Carvel strong-hands her into dismembering her new friend for the consumption of her blood-thirsty relatives.
From the Boston Herald, Return of the Itching Man, By Sean L. McCarthy, Friday, December 2, 2005:
Picture Burning Man, only without the hippies, the desert landscapes and the gratuitous nudity and body paint. Wait. Scratch that. Instead, think of Evan O’Television’s variety show as a wonderment of wonders, with performance art, stand-up comedy, music and more, featuring the Walsh Brothers, HumanWine, Marsian, Peter Glantz, the Steamy Bohemians and Bony Lil. It’s the final midnight event of 2005 at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline. Tickets cost $8.
