Uptown

On July 1, 2010, Uptown covered Puppet Apocalypse, a puppet cabaret in Winnipeg where I performed Fudgie’s Death, an episode of Growing Up Linda.

A couple of months ago, the Plastic Paper Animation Festival brought Heather Henson, the puppeteer daughter of Jim Henson, to Winnipeg to show a couple of films and field a question and answer session. It must’ve sparked quite a following, because Puppet Apocalypse is being billed as Winnipeg’s first puppet slam. Henson is returning to make an appearance at the park theatre, and the night is featuring local talents such as The Watch & Spectacle Puppet Company, Secondhand Pants, and Adhere & Deny, which takes myths and stories from the classical canon and acts them out with puppets. Yeah this’ll be more than just Punch and Judy.

Uptown was an alternative weekly arts and entertainment newspaper in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. In 2012 Uptown was transformed into a weekly supplement to the Winnipeg Free Press.
