On October 17, 2003, I showed two pieces from the Side Effects body of work at The Biltmore Hotel in Providence, RI as part of Art Beat, a silent auction for AIDS Care Ocean State. Side Effects was a body of work consisting of digitally altered photographic prints of pharmaceuticals (antibiotic, antipsychotic, and antidepressant medications).
In Side Effects, I am reclaiming these pharmaceuticals by taking control of their image. I used a scanner to get ultra-high definition images of actual pills which I then modified in photoshop, and printed on high gloss photo paper. The pieces at the auction were “Nervous Breakthrough” (small) and “Paxil CR #10”. Both were in a limited edition of 10 and made in 2003.
